Alice Springs NT (YEAH)

We visited the old Telegraph Station and where Alice Springs was "born". We met up with Geoff and Merrilyn Prosser who we met in Darwin. We had a nice time catching up with them.
We also met Alex, an Aboriginal man who was part of the "stolen generation", someone who had a good experience with the missionaries here in Alice.

This tiny town, a dot on the map really, hosts the largest statue of Indigenous people I have ever seen. We walk up the top of the hill to get a closer look at "Charlie". We say hi to some kangaroos on the way.

More Devils Marbles!! So beautiful here.

Devils Marbles NT

We took at Tour of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Tennant Creek before we left, and Jerry was our tour guide (sort of!). We still had our audio headsets and Jerry just walked around with us while we listened to our headsets??
We loved visiting the Devils Marbles. So amazing the size of these boulders.

Monday, May 16, 2011

This is a special day for us as we get to have an Aboriginal art lesson from Heather. Heather is part of the team of ladies who work at the "Pink Palace" - Art and Craft centre here at Tennant Creek. We were invited out for a visit by the manager of the centre - Diane- who we met at the AIM church the day before.

Laurens painting is a bush medicine style, Heather paints bush bananas, and bush tucker so Amy copied her style, and Jake did a dot and snake painting called "snake mets the sun". We all had a great time.

Some of the tourist sights around Tennant Creek are "THE PEBBLES" - heaps of boulders all clumped over one area. The old TELEGRAPH STATION, the "hub" of central Australia back in the day and MARY ANN DAM.

Watching the sunset over Tennant Creek.

Tennant Creek NT

The Views from Battery Hill overlooking Tennant Creek. From the visitors centre.

The countryside is changing as we travel south towards Tennant Creek. Tim saves some money fueling up from the Jerry cans. At some places fuel is $2.20!!! We stay on the side of the road at a lovely peaceful creek, and catch some little crabs in the pots. Too small though, so they go back into the creek.

On the road again - Daly Waters Pub NT

We stop the night at the Daly Waters Pub/Caravan park. Its famous pub allows kids to sit at the bar and pretend to pull dad a beer!! Some other interesting features around the place too!

Amy is also taking after her Poppy!!
