Fishing the Pentecost River for Barramundi. It was a 40degree day and we were searching for the nearest tree. No luck with with mighty Barra however.
The lovely green grassy shots of pool and playground are of Home Valley Station where we stayed the last night of camping on the Gibb River Road. It was very nice but very pricey!

More shots of the stunning
scenery around these Cockburn
Ranges. Some sights are more
stunning than others however!!!

Check out our good friends - the Smiths who have a blogsite with some photos of what we've been up to together in our time at Kununurra at

We enjoyed our camping and bush walking experiences at El Questro. We spend our last morning here swimming in the river (the croc free bit???), and relaxing on the pool recliner chairs. Here is an example of how Jake had to "swim" with his injured foot. Note the booted foot on the rocks while the rest of his body is submerged! Gotta keep cool somehow.
Branco's Lookout. My good friend Alison told me that this was her favourite vista on the Gibb - I would have to agree! WOW this is the Kimberley at its most magnificent. We love it too!!
Also Tim couldn't resist taking a photo of some Kimberley cows!

This walk is called El Questro Gorge. It is 3.8ks one way over a rocky path with boulders to clamber over - was very challenging. Jake was our "tour guide" pointing out VITAL points of interest along the way. He went very well on his injured foot.
Thankfully there were lovely water holes to cool down in along the way to the waterfall at the end. Just lovely - and shaded - which was so good on this very hot day.

Zebidee Springs is a series of small pools cascading down the gorge. The thermal water is almost too warm on these hots days we are experiencing!! The minerals are said to have "healing" properties by some who have used them. We just find them very relaxing.

Jake cuts his foot jumping off the rocks into Emma Gorge Pool. Its very deep and Tim dresses it straight away. Jake is able to walk out of the gorge and we no longer contemplate using the pool any longer - Jake is out of the water for the rest of this trip!
We get to El Questro and talk to the medical officer Del. She has some butterfly bandages and applies the magic touch to Jakes foot.

Gibb River Road Kununurra End

We have arrived at Emma Gorge, the first walk we do on our camping trip back on the other end of the Gibb River Road.
Emma Gorge has a lovely reception area, with bar and restaurant and a pool! Hardly what you would expect for this "remote frontier!" So before we head off on our walk we have cappucinos on the deck - contemplating a swim in the pool when we come out.
The gorge walk has a couple of swimming holes as it turns out and the kids enjoy jumping off rocks into the water of turquoise pool.
Lauren even stays still long enough for this dragon fly to land on her big toe!

Our friends The Smiths are off on the road again. Bon Voyage!! See you up the road??? Hopefully....

Looking down over Molly Springs. We love the country side around Kununurra - so different.

A very pretty place. The day we come to swim is actually a bit cooler, so the water was fairly "fresh"!

Looking down on Molly Springs.

This croc is really hard to balance on! He's a slippery customer!

The beautiful waterfall at the springs. This spring is not sign posted and the locals like to keep it a secret. Just lucky we are "local" then!

Jake at Molly Springs - a peaceful, calm and tranquil pool of water with a lovely flowing waterfall - and then JAKE ON HIS CROC> Yeha!!!

Paul Mock shows us the sandalwood tree and its host tree. The sandalwood grows with a host tree then eventually the host tree will die, leaving the sandalwood to thrive.
The oil produced from the sandalwood tree is very expensive - 5mls is around $50.

We take a tour around the Sandalwood farm in this kabota buggy!

Amy enjoys our new "croc" - got it for $1 at a garage sale. Great pool value. Worth $30 in local shops here!
We are at the Mock's swimming pool with the church family picnic.

We go out to a Sandalwood farm run by Paul Mock. This was also a church picnic lunch as well. Paul shows Jake the finer points on archery.

These little lizards are EVERYWHERE up here. We discovered this guy in our extension cord, quite happy resting here. They move so fast that no one can catch them.

MMMM Fruit Salad - yummy yummy. Yes we are already eating MANGOS (they are everywhere on the trees up here and just ripening now). Local bananas - local paw paw and strawberries. Ooo la la!

Smile Mr Crocodile. This one enjoyed being 'fed' on local handouts so he was more than a little friendly as he came up onto the bank towards us! Yikes!

Love love! (And trying to ingnore the face that there is a big croc just in the water behind us!)

I love the scenery here at Lake Argyle - its just awesome.

Keeping the "ferals" out!!
Lauren is showing how tall she is getting, by standing next to me at Lake Argyle. I will soon be looking up to her!
