The wheels on the Bus in Adelaide are FREE - well one bus is that is - and we rested our legs on it a few times when we visited the city.
We also had a lesson in manners from a older lady - who in "HER DAY" the young people would get up for the OLD people....... thankfully Lauren moved fairly quickly to make room and was complimented on her 'good manners".

Cappiccinos at the Central Markets in Adelaide. A Russian cafe, served by a Japanese man with a big smile. He couldn't tell the next customer what a latte was! I had to explain to the customer about the milky coffee but then pointed out that they may not get what they asked for since Mr Smiley wasn't sure!

We felt more at ease in the Museum in Adelaide - the kids really enjoyed the exhibits. Jake learned about the gigantic squids' "testicals" here!!
This is another terrible shot but we visited the Art Gallery in Adelaide and we didn't feel very welcome! Tim touched a piece of furniture in the Gallery and had his head bitten off by one of the Security Guards. "Don't touch the art work SIR!! Dont Touch!" Yikes

We couldn't get out of here quick enough. By the looks of the poster families are only welcomed once a month.

And who is the guy waving in the background?

Good on the lady running in front of our photo too!

Jake is taking this photo cause it was raining at the time!!

Wistow SA

Here are the kids with Molly and her horse Willy. Amy was busting out of her skin to ride him. She does get her chance later on. Maddie is Molly's sister and she has a horse called Wally.
Strathalbyn Pool. Not a great photo but I had to put it in. It costs $19 for our family to swim in this pool! I nearly choked when the lady told me how much. Then later that week we tried to find a cheaper pool at Woodside - only to discover that it costs $23! Man its expensive to have a swim here in SA.
Beautiful Strathalbyn. This town is 15mins away from Jen and Rods place where we were staying. It was very very hot when we arrived.

Here we are crossing the Murray on a Ferry over to Wellington to get to Tims cousin Jenny house near Adelaide.

The Coorong National Park

We stay the night at the Coorong National Park at 42 Mile Beach. Tim organised this breakfast on the beach. Vertually no one around so we took a dip after breakkie!

Yummy oysters from Cape Jaffa - which were actually Streaky Bay oysters. I made them Oysters Kilpatrick. Delicious!

Going through Kingston

The Big Lobster at Kingston. Reasonably cheap supermarket shopping here. A flying visit through...

Visiting Robe

After almost a week at Beachport we decide to move on. We head through Robe, another lovely seaside village bigger than Beachport.

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Tim and Lauren snorkel and find Abalone. Its a delicacy (aparently).
You need to soak it, beat it and slice it up finely and then cook it lightly.
Tastes fine - bit like calamari. This is very expensive to buy in the seafood shops. Lucky us.....

Beachport is like a mini 12 Apostles! The beautiful limestone formations make this coast line so amazing.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Beach 4WDriving is a big pass time around Beachport so we have a go ourselves. We spot a big Echinda on the side of the track as well.
(If anyone tells you I shouted "Hedgehog, Hedgehog" - well they're just telling fibs!! - Really)

With Amy's help I make it to the end of the 772m Jetty. Which needs a bit of work on the old boards!

Fish and chips on the Jetty at Beachport.
MMMMM Yum

Jake and I floating in the Pool of Siloam. Seven times more saltier than sea water, makes you bob around like a cork. Just got to keep your mouth shut cause the salt isn't nice. Afterwards we have a "summer shower" to rinse off the salt.
Everyone enjoying the beach, Tim with a spear in hand not realising at this very moment the water temp is 15degrees! ICY

Beachport - South Australia

Ahhh yes... beautiful Beachport. Stunningly blue one day, cold, freezing waters, and blowing a gale the next....
Its an amazing pretty little beachside village, complete with the 2nd longest jetty in SA - 772m long.
We have stayed here 6 nights and have experienced 4 seasons in that time.
Jacob has been bitten to death by mossies, march flys and other sand fly critters.
We have lovely (tentside) neighbours who live only 30ks away at Millicent. Elaine has a nectarine tree at home and went to get some for us! Yummy

Here is our new family home set-up.

Mount Gambier SA

This is the Blue Lake in Mt Gambier. The lake is in a volcanic crater and sources the towns water supply. Mt Gambier is SA 2nd largest town of 24000 people. It was 42degrees when we visited, we nearly melted. We are just passing through, but Tim needs a shop - new shoes and a watch at the Rivers Clearance store!

Savouring my first cappiccino in 2 weeks. Sooo yummo! Loving the life in Casterton. Doesn't matter that I need to hand wash 6 tub loads to compensate the cost the next day. (Really did hand wash 6 tub loads!)

The Kelpie statue in Casterton

Casterton VICTORIA

Casterton is a quaint town in south/west Victoria. And it has an AWESOME skate park! We came in the council run "Caravan Park". This is Kelpie Country!
We love Casterton and its picturesque surrounds. We get caught up in it all that we splurge on a lovely morning tea!
This is the river at the National Park.

We visit Little Desert National Park in Victoria. Situated near a town called Dimboola. We park the Caravan on horseshoe bend, and swim in the Wimmera River here. Its so hot but the river is cold and refreshing.
The kids swim and swim and swim!
The campground is fantastic but noone is around! We are traveling the road less travelled!
We stay the night by the side of the road but our destination was a town called RAINBOW, in Victoria. There is not much there. No church services at the church there. Nothing...but rainbows everywhere....move on
We arrive in Victoria - Murry Cod country - Swan Hill - but we are just passing through...

This is the Old Hay Gaol where they imprisoned the Japanese escapees after the Cowra Breakout. They also used to hold "naughty girls" from the Parramatta institutions. Only 2 people escaped from this Gaol

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi! Griffith Memorial Park on Australia Day. Amy hated her look. She wanted Butterflys!

Pretty Pines (20ks North of Deniliquin)

We visit Tims cousins daughter - Haley Rutherford - out on a property near Pretty Pines. Its a massive cattle station called Rhyola/Inverness. Haley and her partner Matt "Patto" run this station with cattle, and a few sheep.
Haley keeps pigs (some for eating!), and the mother pig had just had nine piglets when we arrived.
The country side is so different to home - flat and scrubby - with dillion bush and salt bushes everywhere. The cattle are amazingly doing really well in this drought. The station is bordered and watered by the Billabong Creek.

Hay

Hay is a surprising little town. It is well serviced and even has a lolly shop! Lauren cant go past the lolly shop. We have to stay the night here as we needed some mechanical work done to the ute. Hay has some great museums, new library and community centre and a FREE pool. Its so long!

Our first Week

Hello from the travelling Parkers! We have been going a week and a half and we are not sick of it or each other just yet.
We started our trip in Griffith. A very interesting multi-cultural place. With lots and lots of orange trees, grapevines and Italians (well it has a strong Italian heritage here).
We stayed at the Tourist Caravan Park, with a fantastic little pool. Our top tip for Griffith is to head out to Darlington Point (25mins south), and swim in the Murrumbidgee River. Nice clean sandy "beaches", its a great way to cool off.
Australia Day was fun with a Battle of the Bands in the Memorial Park, free Anzac bickies, tatoos and Aussie Flags. We had some traditional pizza from the Pizziaria. Belissimo!!!
